Thought waves, 2014

This video piece is constructed from two short (<3min) video clips taken during my time at the South Stradbroke Island Artist Camp in March 2014.
My favourite aspect of travelling away from an urban environment is the feeling and sense of time slowing down. I love being on country, away from the city, sitting still, slowing down, breathing deeply, listening and absorbing the natural surroundings. I work in an urban environment where movement, information and communication is rapid. It is easier to relax in an environment such as South Stradbroke Island but I find it takes time for my mind to re-adjust. I wanted to explore the concept of “island time” and then portray the complete opposite. I manipulated lighting, movement, sound and speed to imitate erratic thought patterns and distort the visual recognition of time.

The video was a part of the South Stradbroke Island Artist Camp exhibition on display Foyer Gallery, Gold Coast City Gallery 10 July – 31 August 2014.
